designed to immerse students in nature, build community, and foster
independence, curiosity, and self-reflection. Located in the Tahoe National
Forest outside of Nevada City, California, this program introduces students
to the fundamentals of backcountry travel, outdoor living, and
environmental stewardship in a supportive, experiential setting.

Students will carry their own backpacks, learn to navigate using map and
compass, explore cross-country routes, and participate in a variety of
personal and group challenges. Through shared adventure, reflection, and
creativity, ESCAPE 1.0 nurtures self-confidence, resilience, and
appreciation for the natural world.

ESCAPE 2.0 is suitable for participants with ESCAPE 1.0 or prior backpacking experience and offers a deeper immersion into self-reliance, teamwork,
and outdoor living. This true backpacking expedition challenges students
to become active stewards of their own experience — carrying their own
food and kitchen supplies, navigating daily route changes, and setting up
new camps as they move through the backcountry.
Participants take full ownership of their expedition: they prepare their own
meals, manage their personal and group gear, and make decisions as a
team. Through lessons in navigation, wilderness ethics, backcountry
cooking, and self-leadership, students gain confidence and competence in
remote environments.
